width apart and slightly bent at the knee. Air your shoes after exercise to
prevent build up of bacteria.
Don’t use too old shoes. Vary heel heights from day to day
by wearing low heels and slightly higher heels. Keep heel heights about 2cm for
everyday use. Wear shoes with a strap or lace over the instep rather than
slips-on because it will reduces the chance of sliding forward. Keep your feet
always dry and clean. Keep toenails trimmed. Be aware of moist feet to avoid
fungal infection.

Diabetic Foot Tips
Keep feet clean; wash them everyday using mild soap and
lukewarm water. Check your feet carefully. Search for redness, sores, cuts,
blisters, swellings, calluses and corns changes in skin color, ingrown toenails
and so on. Use mirror to see your feet. Call a doctor if you notice anything
skeptical.
Don’t rub and use a soft towel and pat and gently to dry
your feet well. Use non-medicated powder before wearing shoes or socks. If you
have dry and creaking skin, you can moisturize your feet applying cream or
lanolin lotion on the heel. But don’t moisturize between toes because it causes
fungal infection. Don’t wash your feet too long as it makes skin too fragile.
Avoid going bare-foot even when indoors. Treading on something and making feet
too hot or cold might damage the skin. Step in after checking the bath
temperature, avoid electric blankets or foot spas. Exercise your feet
regularly. Cut your nails and file your toenails to make them smooth.
