What is
starfish?
What are the
characteristics of it?
What are the
difference between starfishes and other fishes?
Starfish is a sea-urchin type of fish. Starfishes have many
arms. Most of them have a central disk with five arms. Some of them also have
twenty arms. These arms consist with tube feet. These tubes are related to an
internal network of canals which goes through the starfish. The flowing stream
through the network helps their tube to play a vital role like tiny sucking
structure. Starfishes move on and get food using their hollow tube. They use
their sucking feet and fold their arms together around a shell-fish to catch
them.
The most interestingly unusual thing happens when their
stomach stretches out of its body through their mouth and enters the
shell-fish. After entering inside the shell, they start digesting the soft body
of the clam by sucking into them.
Basically, a starfish can have a dozen clams a day. Because
of that the crews on fishing boats always try to find out starfish. If they
find it, they chop up it and send back in the ocean. But any places that had
the part of the central disk grew into new one. Recently, it has been
discovered that starfish can regenerate itself. SO, there is no way to kill it
without drying. Actually, among all of the fishes, starfish is too much strange
in nature.
